Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

are all materials equal?

just wondering............

lidl have their 'on the slopes' offers. they have the usual avoidable and risible offerings, but also have some cheap fleeces and thermals.

do to the point, are all materials equal? ie does an €8 fleece from lidl give the same thermal and wicking performance as another 'polyester microfibre fleece'. or maybe the thermals - they're just described as polyester - will they be as good as say my other 'branded' thermals?

i suspect i know the answer but......

rogg, Yes and No.

No clothing Manufacturer will be making the actual fibre or indeed the finished cloth themselves, so it's quite possible that a cheap unbranded fleece uses exactly the same material as one from a well known brand.
You can only really compare like with like. If the fibre, construction, design and fabric weight is the same, then they will perform the same.

rogg, I bought Lidl mohair thermal leggings last year and although they are 'fluffy' to look at they were surprisingly comfortable and warm - and being natural wool, appeared to meet that criteria which most snowheads seem to say is the first prerequisite of thermal undies

Don't know if the Lidl stuff is good or bad, but I do know that not all fleeces and thermals are the same. They vary from superb to complete crap. I've got both types Smile

most of my thermals are synthetics either Slush and Rubble own brand or Patagonia Capilene. I'm going to assume they might not be as good as those, but would probably do as a spare set.

My micro fleeces cost around £2.00 each in Nepal and are very good quality
