Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Early season, mid December: Val Thoren?

Hi all

Sorry to ask the forum this question but I have found the darn snow reports and histories rather- shall we say, inconsistent with reality?! Confused

Does anyone have any first hand expirience with the snowfall in Val thoren for mid December? Is it enough for ski in ski out?

Are most of the pistes open?

there are no gurantees but VT should be high enough - there's no glacier however so you don't have the advantage of guaranteed glacier skiing as there is in Tignes or Zermatt. Resort officially opens on the 6th which should be a good indication.

i was there 8th-11th december last year, snowed the whole time and was defo board-in board-out!
back again 13th-20th december this year so hoping rolling eyes for more of the same. resort opens 22nd november Little Angel

Used to go race training there with the army before xmas, was ok, usually about 60-70% open, links to the 3V can be dodgy and forget off piste as not enough snow base at time of year and its pretty rocky terrain. The last couple of years I went there were quite a few university groups, which was quite fun until the students overstepped the mark with some of my soldiers.......and were'nt quick or wise enough to run!

tbanting, I was there yesterday; it was snowing quite heavily in the village. Coverage is looking quite good above about 2600 already.
