Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi everyone

The first real snow has arrived in resort so let's start the 2008 / 09 thread to celebrate. Great to see how busy last season's thread has been even during the summer.

Glad someone started it - was going to wait till the weekend and get my camera out...

I'll add in terms of links - www.skinewgen.com - great ski school in vallandry with small class sizes - and a 'very select' number of instructors..

Hmm.. seems to have thrrottled back a bit. As tignes was closed early headed over to LA to get my bearings. Currently the snow that was on the cams down to vallandry etc, all seems to have melted. Looks like the snow-level has gone back up the hill to above the top of charmettoger. Temp today in bourg was 15 degrees, not that much colder unfortunately in 1800.

for the non-locals that might be browsing - this is a photo of a piste

Apart from the washing line re-opening no new major chairlifts in Les Arcs this year?

Only 9 weeks today till I will be gracing the slopes with my presence (and hopefully in a newly built apartment)

thefatcontroller, no new lifts in Paradiski apart from a pedestrian one in Les Coche (?) I guess that is a reflection of Compagnie des Alpes being prudent having expanded quite quickly, buying Val etc. So not a lot of work for construction workers - so best string out what little work they have in the mountains Toofy Grin wink http://www.compagniedesalpes.com/fr/dom_ski.asp

thefatcontroller, aren't you taking the Discovery and driver to act as your own personal chairlift?

As good as the Disco is I won't need it in Les Arcs as the lifts are so fast Toofy Grin however if I was staying in La Plagne I would use it as the lifts are so slow there

Bertie Bessett its the same in La Rosiere. Looked on the webcam and there was a fairly good covering of snow with the area near enough totally white, heavy rain came the next morning as the temperature increased and there was no more snow. Sad

And it's like that in practice too - Sunday pm had strong sun and the La Ros ledge just soaked it all up - and looks like it all dropped off the slopes. Nice looking place despite the incredibly long drive up from the valley - wouldn't like to the drive (with the unprotected drops) with snow on the road. The odd daytrip to 'probably the best ski resort in the world' I think I will access via the lowest lift.

Hehe I love the drive up. Its the most exciting part. Especially when your in a double-decker coach with Lewis Hamilton's french bus driver cousin and its snowing heavy. Oh yea and its night time. Ahh Feb 05 was a good trip!

Only a small point, tried to buy lift passes on line but it wouldn't allow family prices or tickets. I rang the lift company and they know there is a fault and it should be fixed within the week. One less job to do when we get to resort Cool

Pla Bois this morning Madeye-Smiley . Would be happy with conditions like that in Jan let alone ealry November. Just spoke to a lady in Spirit 1950 to book the kids lessons and she said they had had 30cm in the last 2 days.

A good site to keep an eye on the snow line http://www.webcam-ski.com/interfaces/montchavin/interface.php?pk_interface=65&m=images&r=panoramique&pk_pano=6826

This looks from La Plangne side over towards Vallandry - while snow up top of Plan Bois, ain't down in village yet. Vallandry at 1400 give or take

ok so it's not really 'snow report' so apologies but I saw this when I was checking snowlies.com (falls predicted for end of week and 0 level below BSM!) and it just made me laugh..

"Skiing was good but found we'd pretty much skied everywhere after 3 days. Would I go back? Yes, but only for another short break. Certainly not enough skiing for a weeks visit."

umm right..

It's always good to see it snowing, but I try to be realistic about how much of the lovely stuff falls from the ski. Lots more forecast over the next three of four days though, which I'm rather pleased about Smile
