Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I'm sure there are skiers who can just about snow plough would be confident on a black run. Confidence on skis isn't gained from experience, but the [misguided] belief that the two hours of lessons you had on the rugs at Matson is enough.

which one is the hardest out of blue red and black then? Smile

IMO most blacks can't be used properly because they are clogged up with people spazzing out at the pole colors.

Is it icy or heavy snow or 'perfect' prepared piste?
Daft question reallly. Beginners are beginning. By definition, first week skiers.
So, replace beginner by intermediate and limit the definition to groomed black runs and you may be close.
Then advanced skiers would be trying to do the run confidently in all conditions and expert those who achieve this 'holy grail'?

Nice trolling. As has been discussed ad naseum run gradings are almost meaningless anyway and even the concept of what is a run, how does it differ from a piste etc. I'd say if your original hypothesis refers to a groomer in good condition/visibility then its a decent enough hypothesis. If it means absolute any black e.g. a double black chute denoted only by a bit of wood nailed to a trees in rocky terrain, fog and mashed potato snow then clearly there is a very wide spectrum for beginner.

I can ski a black run confidently - it's the same as a red run / blue run - just a bit steeper. Once you have the right technique on an easy slope you should be able to take it to a hard slope.

I've no idea where that is but if I was skiing around the place and the choice was between skiing some crap and potentially dangerous snow and skiing a blue with good snow I would ski the blue.

Regarding Kramer's point. If you assume skiing black runs is the pinnacle of your skiing progress then if you can't ski them well you are still on progressing. You are not a beginner but somewhere in between.

Some people will never ski black runs well, but they may still enjoy themselves which is what matters. I would be happy to spend time skiing aroudn with anyone who is enjoying themselves whatever their level.
