Hi all
Which resort, in your opinions, would be best to consider? There are potentially 4-6 of us going (2 of whom live in Grenoble - hence the thread title) and want to know the best resort for mixed abilities that is a reasonable drive from Grenoble (say max 2-3hrs).
Would like a bit of life in the evenings - but not after Ibiza on snow!
Suggestions, pros and cons welcome.

Take your pick..all the big french places are within your travel times provided that you don't set off at say 10am on a saturday morning..
3v / Paradiski / Tignes&ValD'isere / LDA & ADH etc.
Of those then LDA has a better rep for nightlife (prob going their in dec this year), ADH is great for beginners/nervous intermediates (lots of easy greens easy accessible from the main lifts)

Lizzard, there were a few decent looking (if a bit small) resorts that Easiski once mentioned - but sort of in the opposite direction of LDA/AdH, the other side of the mountain range ? any idea?

Chamrousse and Sept Laux, probably. I've skied Chamrousse for a week - very French, tremendous views across the city. Spiffy little resort.

I did a day in Chamrousse when I was visiting last time. Found it really nice, but was not sure there would be a weeks worth of skiing there. Perhaps I was wrong.
Lizzard, My friends in Grenoble are relatively new to skiing - as in I went to visit them this February and got them their first lessons after being absolutely green with envy that they live that close to great resorts and don't ski!!!! But now they're hooked and will probably be outskiing me soon! Hence, they are not too familiar with the resorts.
I'm thinking i might give LDA a try. Apparently all the beginner area is up the top so even the beginners get to go up and great good snow and great views. Thought that was a nice touch. However, will the better skiiers be bored there and prefer Alpe d'Huez?

cattlegrid_79, the old LDA v ADH chestnut... it's a matter of taste IMO. i prefer ADH, plenty of people prefer LDA. if you're driving up from Grenoble, why not try both? or stay somewhere cheap in Bourg d'Oisans and have access to either within about 15 mins drive

cattlegrid_79, Not much between them for better skiers. Real beginner areas at LDA above the village then moving up to Les Cretes at 2100. The glacier has reasonably easy skiing too and you can always go up there anyway. ADH has wide easy areas above the village, probably better than LDA for that in my opinion.

think you'd have to have drunk the LDA kool-aid to say that the beginner areas are better there than in ADH
good skiers will find plenty to amuse themselves at both, snow conditions permitting
intermediates - a bit more tricky because that term covers such a multitude of abilities. if you aren't happy on reds, though, that cuts out a lot of the best skiing in ADH. you might be able to find more to do at LDA with judicious use of the lift system, although it's a pretty challenging area itself

Ah, i didn't realise this was an age old argument. Maybe I'll just go to whatever I can get cheaper! Gives me an excuse to then maybe try out the one I don't go to this time, at the end of the season!
Arno, I think i'd rather stay in one of the resorts, purely for access to the bars etc. Whilst i'm not after an Ibiza-esque trip, i do like a bit of nightlife and then that traditional bloody mary in the morning in order to make me feel like I can face the first lift.
