I hope the original thread is about to be re-instated (possibly with a couple of posts removed or, preferably, modified) and then this thread can be removed too. But why prevent discussion?

(a) I thought the episode was of little consequence and by locking the thread it would all just fade and die quickly.
alternatively, if you prefer...
(b) I just thought it would make it look a whole lot more suspicious and would wind everyone up if I locked the thread - so I did.

Agenterre, all I can say is that the Frejus Tunnel is not my favourite.....having experienced it twice in short succession en route to Serre Chevalier. But it was still closer and quicker from Turin to SC.....

snowball, Did not see it at all! Was there some contention then! If so bring it back! We all need excitement in our lives!!!! Only once did a back bottom contributor go OTT and asked someone to step outside!
I also noted that someone that I thought was trying a spam on a Scandinavian holiday was pulled, it was harmless and I think only got a couple of replies. Unless of course it was pulled by the OP! Is that possible?

Crikey! What sort of conspiricy theory have I started here?!? All I wanted to know was if people thought I'd got a good deal on my hol and a liitle bit of info on the resorts apres

So has anyone been to Serre Che around mid Jan before? I was watching a few youtube clips of the slopes last night and can't wait.

solstice21, your holiday is a great deal, and Turin is the nearest airport. I hope you have a great time, and come to love Serre Chevalier as much as I do. As for the apres, head for the Grotte in Aravet, and the bar at the Lievre Blanc is usually good value.

I've been a few times in early/mid Jan and never had a problem. Even on a fairly barren year, it was still possible to ski down to resort level - just!

Serre Che is awesome because although it's huge, it is relatively unknown to British tourists so is quiet in January, even though that's the best snow. The Grotte is main apres-ski bar but Mojo bar in Villeneuve is also worth a look in too, a chilled out bar ran by a nice english couple. Best skiing is over in Monetier and the views from the top of the Prorel chair lift above Briancon are amazing.

I know some guys in Marseille who regularly nip up to Serre Chevalier to ski. Reckon it takes them about 3 hrs, which seems to agree with ViaMichelin's suggestion Tunnels do seem to be a little susceptible to fires now and again.......
