lake tahoe any good?
Am still on a mission to get a month or 2 skiing in somewhere.
I'm off to California next but 1 month and a half might be a bit long to wander round San Fran and down the coast waiting for snow in LTahoe.
Hmm

Some great, some so-so. Great - Squaw, Alpine, Kweed, So-so -Heavenly, Flatstar, Sierra unless you're a park rat or a blue run cruiser.
South Lake Tahoe has a bit of an apres scene with workers' nights at the casino clubs but the liveliest bar I've been in was full of Brit punters

Truthfully, Tahoe is not snow sure until after Christmas - traditionally the season really got going the 1st week in January, but now with snowmaking some resorts open by the beginning of December, and would like to be open by Thanksgiving. Mammoth is usually the first to open followed by Squaw, Heavenly, Northstar, and Alpine. The season generally runs to the end of April with Squaw staying open the longest in the lake area, and Mammoth tries to get until July 4th.
The Apres is very different than in Europe - the skiing starts early so the apres finishes early, except in the casinos and the very few night clubs. However, most people I know seem to have a great time between about 4 and 9 pm AND don't suffer from hangovers the next morning!

so where's the nightlife in American resorts then?
Sounds like they've taken after the Austrians après prowess!

Hardly - people in Austria drink till they develop the ability to dance on tables to crap Euro pop in ski boots, people in the US have a couple of beers maybe then get back in subaru or SUV to drive back to the condo.

You'll get to see more forums and be part of the best ski club on the net.

Of course what you do back at the house or condo is entirely up to you! Nightlife generally happens between 4 and 9pm - and then continues at private venues!
