Hi,

Sorry I have not posted before but I have been busy. We were filmed last weekend for the ITV programme 'No place like home' and one day they filmed me and my 2 sons skiing on the glacier.

We had a glorious half day skiing. Although it was a hassle getting up there- 2 gondolas and a cable car and quite a bit of walking in between the stations. About an hour to get to the top. This was the 2nd time I had been there but the first I wasn't skiing and it was over 14 years ago on our honeymoon, then we went up the old funicular ( before the fire).

The day was cloudy at the bottom but it had said it would be sunny at the top and there was about 38cm of snow at the top and about 20 cm at the alpine centre. It had opened the day before for skiing.

When we first got to the top the runs were covered in cloud- not good for filming!! After coming all this way it was very disappointing!!

But when we started skiing the cloud cleared and it was a beautiful day:-

We had to do lots of skiing towards the camera and once I managed to do a turn just in front of the camera and covered it in snow- which apparently made a good shot!! Also every time I skied towards the camera the mist would come down and the director would say 'Could we do that again please'. So by the end of the morning I was very tired- I hadn't skied since April and it was at 3,000m!!!

The snow was powder and even though it was the weekend it was not busy.The runs that was open was 1 and 4 - so 3 lifts and 4 runs - plenty to ski in half a day.

Here is a film from the restaurant looking down to the slopes. It is not great quality and apparently 3 of the blobs are me and the boys skiing!!!

After the skiing we were all very hungry and had a nice meal in the alm at the alpine centre.

This was the 2nd time I had gone skiing on a glacier ( I have skiied on the dachstein glacier) and it does mean the runs are not that challenging but I have to say the views up there are brilliant and the setting amazing. So I think I will try and get a days skiing next summer.

PS - For the programme I talked about the music I composed and I had to add some of my music to a clip. I chose one of me skiing down a slope in Muelhbach. ( this is one of the slopes the new gondola will serve)The quality isn't great .

It looks in good condition, did it snow there recently? I was there at the start of May, you should try the snow park if you want a challenge!
