Solden, Ischgl, Lech, St Anton, Tignes, Zermatt and Saas Fee are all good, all have good early season snow records. I was in Heiligenblut (Austria) last friday and it had snowed 50cm above 2000m, thats not going to melt in an afternoon! So looking good already.....

Ola, much depends on how important boot fitting is and when you plan on going (December is a long month). Chamonix plans on being fully open for the week before Christmas week with the option of opening earlier if possible. Weekends planned IIRC from early December.
You are probably better off somewhere with a Glacier - Tignes & L2Alpes come to mind (I know nothing directly about Austria, never skied there, yes, my bad).
But if you're really serious about bootfitting, Chamonix really has to be in the frame.

Ola,
Go high, find a glacier... so like under a new name suggests Tignes, Les Deux Alps. We've skied over Christmas in the French Alps for more than 10 years now and only had one truly disastrous no snow year. We tend to head for Les Arcs, Serre Chevalier or The 3 valleys. It can be pebbly, but as the saying goes...better a bad day on the piste...

Ola, St Anton would be good. Snow forecast over the next few days for example. Also quite a few Norwegians and Swedes go there, as well of course as Dutch, German and us Brits. The Arlberg region as a whole has one of the best snow records in the Alps (source - this months Daily Mail Ski Magazine). You could also treat yourself to Strolz ski boots, which I bought this year from the Strolz shop in Lech, just along the road from St Anton www.strolz.at Not cheap though to buy - ie around €500-€600 (with custom foot beds), but absolutely fantastic. They should last around 15 years according to a lot of people I talked to on chair lfts etc that owned them. You also see a lot of the instructors wearing them, which is usually a good sign.

Chamonix has been poor in 3 of last the 4 years in December in any case the whole system is not due to open until 20th Dec.
Boot fitting is first rate at either Footworks or Sanglard.

Ola, I'm heading to Val D'isere on the 7h December so I'm hoping the snow's gonna be good!!! Mind you, I've sseen a few reports from the last few seasons and it's said that Val and Tignes are pretty good early season.
