The statement from the mayor of Les Houches seems the clearer.
The lifts will open.
We will use all the legal and administrative tools we can to ensure this (trying to get a different decision in another court would be typical of the French Legal System).
We don't like being left off the MBU, but will throw our hat in with St Gervais for the long term.
And, SEPP's intransigence comes in for some criticism too.
The earlier release from the Mayor of SG seems simply to say he has taken note of the Commissaire's report and will wait for the Tribunal.

You'll need to Register first of course.

FWIW the lift companies are selling season passes and the local restaurateurs are preparing for opening day. A resort that has invested so much money in snowmaking equipment and new lifts is hardly likely to let a family tiff upset operations.

Was planning on going to Les Houches for new year, then driving down to join friends in Les Arcs. This changes things somewhat! I have a mate renting a place there for the season, he could be in for a nasty surprise.
Anyhow... Does anyone know a nice place that could put me, the missus and a mate up in two separate rooms for new year's week?
Help much appreciated.
Cheers,
JimF

The lift passes for the St Gervais / Megeve /Les Contamines Evasion area now make no mention of skiing in Les Houches. Looks like it is all on its own this year.

One of my French friends always sounds the x on the end of Chamonix. How are all those ex places near Geneva pronounced - eg Gex, Bettex? |
They're not French though, they're Franco-Provencal (or Romand or Arpitan or whatever you want to call it):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franco-Proven%C3%A7al_language
According to wikipedia (yeah, yeah, I know) :
Quote: |
Other than in family names, the Franco-Provençal legacy primarily survives in place names. Many are immediately recognizable, ending in -az, -oz (-otz), -uz, -ax, -ex, -ux, -oux, and -ieux (-ieu). These suffixes indicate the stress syllables based on a historical orthographic system considered obsolete by modern scholars. The last letter is not pronounced. For multi-syllabic names, “z” indicates a paroxytone (stress on the next-to-last syllable), and “x” indicates an oxytone (stress on the last syllable), for example, Chanaz: /ˈʃɑ.nɑ/ (shana); Chênex: /ʃɛˈne/ (shèné).

beequin, oddly enough the LH website still has the Pays du Mont Blanc pass listed with prices, including Chamonix...my understanding is that it will be open - just not on the CHamonix passes. Which is only a recent addition anyway (apparently) so there we go.

beequin, the fewer the merrier; but strange 'cos a lot of the LH lifts are on the St Gervais side.....even the telepherique has the names of both towns on it.David Murdoch, same understanding from people in LH at the moment........after LH installed snowmaking and could guarantee top to bottom skiing they split from the rest of the valley(CdMB?) lift passes 'cos they reckoned they weren't getting a decent enough return on their investment. It has been an on/off association for years and current cafe chat is that unless they can work out something with StG they have to get back into the valley system......anyone want to buy a small ski station with potential?!
