Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Early Dec in Tignes (for a Snoworks course)

Hi,

I'm on the verge of booking a trip to Tignes for a Snoworks course at the beginning of December.

I know Tignes is one of the better bets for early season snow ... but how much of it is likely to actually be open this early in the season?

Perhaps what might be useful to know is a worse case scenario ... if we were to have an awful start to the season, will it mean I end up sitting in french bar for a week, or will there still be some decent skiing to be had?

abj, went last year same time on a snoworks course and had the opposite problem. I hammered down virtually every day and we had so much snow the glaciers were only open one day due to high winds.

This was great in that we got to ski fresh powder everyday but bad in that i went for a race camp and only managed to get 5 runs in gates.

so who knows is the answer, i booked a week of bumps instead of gates for this december Laughing

abj, have booked Val D'Isere for the 7h so hoping that it snows. Most of the archive snow reports show that there's good cover early december but as we all know, you never can tell with nature...

Have a butchers at www-snow-forecast.com and look through the archives - at least it gives you some idea

skimottaret, sounds like you're quite a bit above my skiing standard - I'm looking at doing the 'piste performance' course, which I gather is a more general intro to the Snoworks courses.

Specialman, thanks for the link - I'll have look.

I have to confess I know absolutely nothing about Tignes, so I'm in research mode at the moment!

abj, I did a course like that in Tignes, early December, some years ago. The snow was not as good as it sometimes is, and fair chunks of the resort were closed. But there was absolutely no problem finding space to do what we needed - on that sort of course you don't cover a lot of ground. Having made a right mess of the bumps first time round, we did them again. And again the next day..... The instructors know where to find the sort of terrain you need. The chances of not having enough snow to do a course, in Tignes, in December, are very very low. Have fun. snowHead

abj, There will be a lot of us disappointed if the snow is poor in Tignes then. There are many Snowheads heading out for a Mountain Sun deal and others also doing Snoworks courses.

went to tignes two years back for christmas and it snowed at the end of Nov and then it didn't snow until new years day - like a month apart. saying that, i reckon (in Europe) we were the envy of many other skiers who went elsewhere - there was plentyish offpiste if you looked hard enough and those places not south facing were luvly. and actually nearly every slope was open, although some were bit stoney, the piste bashers were trying best to stop ice and actually hardly any ice - can't fault them for it - for somewhere that hadn't snow for several weeks - not bad. Went to La Plagne for the second week - had few days of no snow still - place was mostly open and only silly slopes shut (like with pomas) snow a metre overnight on new years - and had fun fun fun for the rest of the week.

Tignes still my fave place to ski, been 3 times now - and I have travelled bout to all sorts of places..

Think if anywhere in europe - tignes is a good bet. it is up there mate

good luck
