Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

resort advice to learn to carve

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I've only been on 1 boarding holiday last year to L2A. This year i am going to go on 2 or 3 and it would be nice to find somewhere for 1 trip where there are wide smooth slopes where i can learn to carve properly. I will also be happy to take more lessons.

any suggestions?

thanks

naryn, Cervinia fits that bill nicely. Wide, perfectly groomed motorways.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

naryn, go when it's not too busy if you want to learn to carve, but aren't you getting a bit ahead of yourself after only 1 week? Puzzled

Well ive done 4 days at MK since then, i started teaching myself to ride switch and have started doing some jumps. Is it too soon? I'm too new to know the answer to that! snowHead

Had a look at Cervinia (http://youtube.com/v/XxZZabQWStA) looks like fun Laughing

Xscape is totally different to even a well groomed piste, don't want to rain on your parade so good luck and go for it.

naryn, I think choice of ski/board school is probably more important than choice of resort. You will make more progress with your technique if you have lessons with a good instructor, rather than trying to find a resort with lots of terrain terrain suitable for your technique (just about all resorts will have some terrain suitable for you). Maybe start a thread asking for recommendations for good board instructors would help narrow your choice of destination?

I agree. I would also say "go for it". An instructor will take you to the right places, in terms of both slopes and techniques, for where you are. If you were a skier one week plus a few days in a fridge would be far too soon to think about carving, but the learning curve is a lot steeper on a board if you are courageous and athletic (ie if you are not me!). I think easiski knows some very good boarding instructors in LDA - why don't you start a new "find an ace snowboard instructor" thread on the snowboarding page?

ok, thanks for the reality check guys! I definately intend to take lessons next trip, theres always more to learn and i like the system of having a lesson once a day AM or PM, and going offf doing your own thing the rest of the day, the lesson really brings you back to the technique and helps me focus on getting better. In L2A my instructer was Christian at European Ski School and he was very good, if i was going back there i would get more lessons from him most definately.

naryn, rob's point about uncrowded slopes is really important too - suggest mid January for least crowds. And cheapest prices. Have fun.

naryn, Robin is also very good there and John Nelson. Many of the snowboard instructors do seem to be very 'into' freestyle and might assume that you want that - you'll have to tell them what you want to learn. For the very, very best snowboard guy (IMO) here go to the ESF for private lessons with Fred Morass. Very Happy (Fred Brenon is good too, also Ezekiel David).
