Flow, I went to the Olympics is Val and they shut off the whole CC and the Face for the DH race all week before the big day.
Upside, the resort will be full of TV Techs/Race officials, competitors, etc etc and some of the domain will be OB..but then the slopes that you can get to will likely not be crowded. Unless you wanted to see the Champs tho, I'd avoid it.

rjs, Thanks, we were looking at Jan 24th. Looking at the 3V's, Zermatt or 4V's now. Cant be bothered going and not getting full area coverage. Do not see the fascination with being in a resort with techies and athletes, spend enough time at home with one!

Guvnor, Technically yes but, the good runs down to Val from Tignes will most probably be closed to prepare for races. Probably best to avoid the area and get back there another time. Unless by coverage you thought I meant snow, if so you are right there would be full coverage at that time of the year (or at least should be).
Want to experience the Espace Killy without being hindered by race week! That is what I meant to say.

And the week following the WC is UK 1/2 term, so that will be busy too. That said, I've skied that week for the last 6 years (teacher friends) and it's not really been a problem. 1/2 term week followed the WC last year and I was lucky enough to be one of the first down Face de Bellvarde just after it had been bashed (on the Tuesday if memory serves). Still it was pretty good later in the week too.

davehk, Would have been more memorable before it had been bashed! Remember doing it in Kitzbuhel after a race one year, I found it very tough.

Yes it would! But seeing as it would have been pretty much sheet ice, not such fun.

Flow, Roy Hockley, I would guess that the road system from Albertville to Val d' will be working at full capacity as well.
So that is the 3'Vs La Plagne Les Arcs Tignes and the smaller resorts off the list for those dates as well perhaps
