Does anybody know if you can take ski boots in there bag as hand luggage on Easyjet from Birmingham?

Depends on whether the check-in staff, then security staff, then flight crew are feeling good that day. i.e. totally pot luck in my experience. Put them in your hold baggage and play safe.

chect2000, at Bournemouth you are NOT permitted to put ski boots in handluggage on easyjet flights, along with several other items of ski gear tools, and snowboard bindings etc. As halfhand, says 'play safe and put in your hold luggage'.

Ar Grenoble you are Not allowed boots or helmets in cabin bags. Large signs inform you of this as you go through to security to catch Easy jet or any other airline

i've carried boots in hand luggage at gatwick a few times with no problems
as posted on here previously by someone else it may help to have the boots in a bag that is not a boot bag!!!!

ski boots are not allowed as hand luggage (officially) - if you have paid for ski carriage then they are allowed as part of that entitlement. If you want to save on a few bob (here is a handy tip) just wear your boots and helmet at check-in. Why not wear you're all in one while your at it?

Hi Thanks for that. I do not understand how some airports and carriers allow the carriage and some do not. Is there a reason why they are not allowed as hand luggage eg are they are classed as a weopan?

I've tried a couple of times at Birmingham-i got past the check-in (probably because they were in an ordinary looking holdall rather than a proper ski bag) but got turned back at the x-ray machine-so not worth the risk or the hassle.
When i'm going to the Tignes bootcamp in December i'm going to just pack my boots in my case to save on having to pay for another baf to go in the hold.

Nickster, I don't believe that. I've carried them on to EZ flights fine at Luton, Gatwick and Stansted, in some cases even explicitly clearing it at checkin. I have also worn them (touring boots) on a number of BA and EZ flights - although was told to take them off on boarding one EZ flight (attendant said it was against company policy, but fine for them to be in overhead locker). Also Heathrow, Geneva, Turin, Lyon have given me no problems with boots as hand luggage.

There is nothing in the prohibited items list that covers ski boots & given that the airline mislaying them can seriously impact your enjoyment of your holiday it appears sensible to carry them in hand luggage where possible. Some airports e.g. grenoble have their own rules otherwise its down to the ignorance of security staff.

fatbob, I'd just love to be sitting under your boots in the overhead locker in the event of serious turbulance and then falling out!
C'mon chaps - carrying ski boots on as hand luggage? All I can say is monoskiers, all in one ski suits, I.T. geeks, limited social skills, drinking halves in a pub, still living with mum at the age of 40, steam train enthusiasts, beard and sandals, bumbag wearing, saved £5.00 by shopping online but spent 10 hours to achieve it! get a life!

What about the people that take a small suitcase or even a laptop on board and put it in the overhead lockers probaly weighing 5kg. Whats the difference? There isn't any. What happens when you hit turbulance and that falls out? Exactly the same.

Nickster my main reason for ski boots in hand luggage is that i can do a weekend with no checked in bag which saves a lot of time and also allows you to go straight to security without queueing to drop off a bag
the massive cost saving is of course an added bonus

No worse than a couple of litres of duty free or the average handbag
For the record I will usually only bung em in hand luggage when up against it on the weight/space limit e.g. if I've tele boots already in my hold bag or when I'm only travelling with hand luggage.

Forget about any sensible arguments that ski boots are no worse than other things that go in hand luggage, all that matters is what the people acting in the security theatre that day think about it.

chect2000, if no-one here can give you the rules for Birmingham get hold of the airport and ask. They each have their own rules. I got refused boots at East Midlands security, the wife's went through OK but mine got picked up. When I politely asked why they weren't allowed I was told 'because they're not', very helpful! . Other airports have allowed them through. It's annoying as I can easily travel for a weekend trip with hand luggage only, including my boots.

Is anybody suggesting that we punters shouldn't be wound up or concerned about taking ski boots as hand luggage and simply take our chance and check 'em in?
That would be fine if you could really on luggage actually arriving at your destination but, unfortunately, these days you can't. We have had items of checked in luggage delayed over 15 times (yes 15!) on skiing, hiking and biking trips in the last 10 years. It's happened a lot on European flights and even more regularly Transatlantic - so much so that we EXPECT luggage not to turn up when we take a Transatlantic flight that involves connections.
Delayed or missing luggage is a complete pain in the a*** and can break a ski trip - particularly if your boots go astray. We went cat skiing in Canada 2 years ago and (surprise surprise) our checked in bags did not arrive at our destination airport. Luckily we'd packed our ski boots and a full skiing outfit in our hand baggage. Result? No non-skiwear other than what we stood up in but at least we were able to travel to the wilderness lodge upon arrival and get stuck into the powder.
Consequently, the moral of our tale is that we take our ski boots as hand luggage -which has not been a problem at Newcastle, Durham Tees Valley, Liverpool, Birmingham, East Mids, Luton, Coventry, Manchester, Stansted or Edinburgh.

As far as I'm aware, there's no reason why ski boots and helmets shouldn't be allowed on board as hand luggage and I've certainly never stopped them. Certain items aren't allowed - I would worry if anyone got an axe through security 
. Has anybody experianced ski boots at Birmingham airport?
