Rock falls still threaten road to 2010 winter Olympic venue

Huge rocks fell from a mountainside onto the road to be used to reach several 2010 Winter Olympic venues in western Canada last week. The rocks, which were about 6-9m in diameter, blocked the road that hugs the mountainous coast from Vancouver to the Whistler ski resort, where Olympic bobsled, luge, skeleton, alpine skiing, ski jumping and cross country skiing events are to be held.
By Saturday night, it had reopened, but experts are concerned that, despite blasting to take down the most unstable rock, it was a matter of when other slabs would fall at Porteau Bluffs, not if. ...

There are still several massive slabs above the road, which is undergoing a 600-million-dollar widening and straightening for the 2010 Winter Olympics.
