Poster: A snowHead

Is the Ski Welt a good destination for New Year? (I'm more interested in the snow conditions than the party atmosphere.)[/b]

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

It's a little low, so I don't think it is very snow-sure early in the season. And the nearest glaciers are about 1.5 hours travel away.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I worked there in 93/94 and there was full coverage and great conditions over the whole area at that time. Top to bottom.

rich.ll,
Skied there in March 05 and it is a fantastic ski area, just impossible to predict snow coverage though

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

very dicey for new year - would be tempted to look elsewhere or book late.

rich.ll,
I skiied there Jan 07 and there was very little snow as it's so low. Scheffau was just about OK but they had snowmaking on 24x7! Unfortunately the whole of Austria was there as it was the only decent snow so it was like Piccadilly Circus!
The ski area did look great though just a shame I didn't get to ski it!

Thanks for your replies. I think I'll look elsewhere for my New Year trip (but I'll keep an eye on the Ski Welt for later in the season).

rich.ll, If you want Austria, better bets for early season would be places such as Kaprun, Solden, Ischgl, Zillertal. All of hose have skiing a fair bit higher than the Ski Welt, and nearby glaciers if even that doesn't turn out to be good enough.
