New Multi Functional Sports Centre is being built for 2008/9 season on the site of the old Raiffeisen Tennis Center
Sorry its in German.
Neues multifunktionales Sportzentrum

jonm,
Not from where I come from, shouldn't you be out catching sheep in your vecro wellies?
A quick rough translation of stantons paragraph .......
From the 2008/09 season there will be more sports activities in St Anton which aren't dependent on the weather. The Tennis hall has been replaced with a sports centre including indoor sports such as Tennis, bowling, squash and a climbing wall. The climbing hall has three different difficulty levels including a route up onto the roof of the new centre, from there it is possible to absail or via "Flying Fox" (what the foxes that?) down a couple of levels to below.

Selva this morning looked great, not much left now. And more to the point all the snow at the top of the Penken Bahn has gone. Damn you sun. Still, January is while yet. I would be watching the La Plagne cams, but no sign of any white stuff yet. Life, must get a life.

Looking nicely snowy on the webcams this morning, will it hang around? Looks to be turning milder after the weekend.

Although its warming up a bit from Sunday the night time temperatures will remain below freezing. I think above 2000Metres (Galzig) the snow will hang around.
Outlook for next week rising temperatures.
This is not unusual for this time of year but if the predicted warm period comes during November I do not expect a good season.

What makes you say that? Surely regardless of what happens in November, a good early December storm or two will start the season off nicely???

Greg

The ground needs to be frozen to hold the snow.
Normally at this time of the year the ground begins to freeze & stays cold throughout till April. When there is a sustained warm spell the ground thaws thus making a base less sustainable. Off -Piste becomes very dangerous because whole hillside just slides down.
The key to everything is temperature.

Rendl doesnt open until 2nd week December, I know it was not open because I hiked up on the 14th December & got some incredible Powder runs before the official opening
2 seasons ago they delayed the whole resort opening by 1 week because they could not make snow in the warm temperatures.
IT only takes 3 days (24*7) to cover the entire piste network with artificial snow so if the temperature is down there should not be a problem.
