Thule in the US do a ski carrier mounted to the "tow hitch" 987xt. I have not been able to find anything similar for the UK. Anyone any experience or knowledge?.

Vertically challenged. Convenience. Ski racing, so too many skis for the roof /car. Wanting to avoid trailer (for ferry costs, etc.) or roof box for fuel economy. Potential storage savings. Need to feel a little different.
Choose one of the above.

Nearly took roof-mounted bikes through a height barrier to a car park myself, hence the preference for something I can at least see in the rear view mirror. More pertinently, with six or seven in a MPV and luggage in the roof box there still needs to be somewhere for skis, or we leave someone behind.

For anyone interested www.roofbox.co.uk confirmed that MaxxRaxx do a bike carrier which can take an adapter for skis. The Thule 987xt is only available in the US.

abc, think about holding a tea tray out your sunroof-pretty hard to hold up beacuse the wind resistance is high whereas if you held it out your boot it would be pretty damn easy. For the same weight (assuming roofbox/towbar thing are similar) the roofbox would hurt economy more...
