Alright guy,
not sure if this is the correct section, i dont post on here often, so not sure :S
I (probably stupidly) said i would organise my uni tip this year.
We went to Arc1800 for the first week of this season just gone and it was absolutely fantastic, skiing and nightlife were awesome, and just the whole trip really....but we were severly let down by our tour company. they just didnt have a clue what was going on, pissed more often than us, and they couldnt organise a wee wee up in a brewery.
I was wondering if you guys would be able to help me out a bit by recomending a few tour companies that are pretty decent.
and a few places maybe to go to as well?
cheers in advance
Sam

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

I have been organising our group's trips for the past 7 years and have generally found the group organisation to be OK. The most organised in my experience have been Ski Total and Skiworld, both of whom are mostly geared towards chalets. There are other specialist companies out there like Ski Beat and Silver Ski who I haven't used yet but wouldn't hesitate to do so. I have found these smaller companies to be more attentive in the resort (if you need them) while the big TO's like Crystal, thomson etc can be pretty useless.

sambmx,
I think you'll need to supply some info.
Average skiing abilities
Numbers involved
Amount per head you are willing to pay
Etc etc
Good for you, being the one that 'steps up to the plate' to organise. I hope you'll take advantage yourself of any bulk booking discount.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

yeah, was a bit vauge.
not sure of numbers, but i would say around 30 of us, of all abilities, mainly pretty confident and decent technical level, a few beginners, but all wanting to improve.
looking at around the 400-450 mark, fairly cheap bein uni students etc.
most likely do it the first week of the season as usually the cheapest.
id much rather do it off our own back that going through BUSC, although a good idea, we were over shadowed last year by the bigget groups of student as we were such a small group.
cheers for the replies.
keep them coming, its all really usefull

This is probably stating the obvious but make sure you get everyone's deposit before booking. Also if one person pulls out this might affect the group discount, so don't factor in the discount into what you charge people until the end. I have a friend who got stung by this.

I've also had the situation where we have booked an entire chalet and one couple had to cancel - they got all their money back on their insurance, but we could not fill the spaces but they had to be paid for - so everyone else ended up losing out to the tune of about £90.

I would echo what rich.ll and davehk said. Keep the discounts back until the end due to people cancelling etc. My rule is once I have issued final requests for payments, any changes which result in us having to pay more is borne by the person / persons cancelling.

Hey Sam,
we have a chalet in bansko and last year we had a big group of uni students who came out and stayed with us and with our friends who have another chalet close by - the organisers did it all themselves, but got good discounts becuase they booked the flights in bulk with fly thomas cook (i think) and we sorted everything out for them in the resort like the ski hire and fancy dress!
It seemed to work out really well for them, so if you are looking for chalet accommodation it might be worth approaching independant owners in the resort of your choice as they will probably be more helpful and less likely to get trashed every night of the week, seeing as they live there permanently!
But like the others said - make sure you get the deposits early and give yourself a decent discount for all your hard work!
