Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

SPOT - Satellite Messenger

Saw this yesterday and it interested me. It's a GPS 'messenger', you basically have two buttons on a GPS unit, one transmits an "OK" message and one a "distress" message.

SPOT Satellite Messenger

You pay an annual service subscription that allows you to send (via a messaging centre) e-mail or SMS messages that give your location, including a link to google maps to allow people to track your movements.

Or an distress signal that is sent to various rescue services depending on where you are when you send the message.

It claims to be 99% certain of sending a message withing 20 minutes from a pretty descent global coverage, inc off shore.

It appeals to me so that I can send a message back to the missus to say that I am OK when off touring and the mobile doesn't work. She loves to know where I am at all times Wink

Obviously a pretty useful emergency device.

Sailors and airmen have had stuff like this for a while EPIRBs, ELTs etc

It's a shame it wasn't incorporated in to a proper GPS unit otherwise I would have ordered one yesterday.

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

interesting gadget. like you i'd have to weigh the not inconsiderable cost versus getting less heat off the missus when i go places without mobile reception

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Glad to hear I'm not the only one getting grief from 'er indoors when I'm up a mountain. Razz

€200 upfront and then ca €130 per year doesn't sound too bad, but do I really have to carry another gadget?

Can it be attached to female offspring so I don't have to lock them in the cellar when they are teenagers?
