Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

No new stadium roof for 2010 Winter Games

The stadium that will hold the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympics is adequate for the job, according to officials. There are plans to replace the aging roof, but not until after the Games are over! The provincial government unveiled plans to replace the fabric cover on BC Place Stadium in Vancouver with a retractable roof, but said it was unrealistic to try to complete the project in time for the Olympics.
Officials began looking at replacing the air-supported roof after a January 2007 storm caused it to collapse like an imploding souffle into the 60,000-seat facility. It took crews about two weeks to re-inflate the fabric.

There will be some upgrades to the stadium before the games. These include renovations to suites, seating, washrooms and concession stands, and the enhancement of the existing roof liner. VANOC’s financial contribution towards the stadium upgrades will be used largely to upgrade access for people with disabilities.

The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games Opening Ceremony will take place in the 60,000-seat BC Place Stadium on February 12, 2010. The Closing Ceremony, to take place on February 28, 2010, will also be held at BC Place Stadium. During the Games period, Nightly Victory Ceremonies will also be held there.

Well, if the roof implodes again, there's always Thunderbird Stadium at the university. The capacity is a relatively cosey 7,000ish though...

Things happen with roofs, it'll be fine. The roof at the Skydome (sorry, Rogers Centre) in Toronto hasn't fallen down for a few years now... Embarassed

BC Place is an eyesore as well as completely irrelevant. Why spend that much money renovating a stadium without a permanent tenant that can come close to filling it? Honestly, they ought to just tear it down after the games. It’s not like it isn’t sitting on prime real estate or anything.

Do away with the opening and closing ceremonies, which are entirely useless. There. Problem solved.
