Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Dave is taking Telluride where it should rightly be. I have been skiing T-Ride since the 80's. I tried to hook up with him when I was out there in March.

seriously though, what's the best way to get to Telluride? i went there in the summer years ago and we drove from Denver which you could do in a day but it was a long way. any more local airports?

i'm thinking a few days in Telluride combined with a few days in Silverton might be a nice trip some time

I'd eyed up a trip taking in Copper (1st stop on the intersate out of Denver), Crested Butte, Silverton , Durango & Telluride a couple of years ago working on a drive n motel idea but couldn't work out optimum time of year.

fatbob, i did pretty much that circuit when i visited in the summer (went a bit south between silverton and telluride to take in some scenery). very nice, interesting scenic drive, but a bit time consuming when you want to get as much skiing in as poss

Im glad T-tide is so far from Denver, it keeps the crowds away Very Happy

It is a 4-5hour drive from Aspen.

From Denver via Grand Junction allow 7 hours for the drive.

Salt Lake to Telluride 6-7hrs

If flying fly into get a connection to Telluride from Denver , Phoenix or better still fly into regional Montrose airport (65mile away) then taxi up to T-Ride.

Mrs C & I are off to Telluride in February on a week's twin centre trip.

It's a bit of a (ahem..) doddle to get there. We leave home Friday night, fly from LHR at Saturday (noon) to Chicago. Then it's Chicago to Denver and, finally, Denver to Gunnison. After that it's a 30 minute shuttle to Crested Butte for 3 nights, arriving at our CB hotel about 20 hours after leaving our LHR hotel.... A slog but (hopefully) worth it for deserted slopes at half term.

After 3 ski days at Crested Butte we then take a Tuesday (early evening) 3 hour transfer to Telluride for 3 ski days there, before flying home from Montrose.

Both resorts look fantastic and we can't wait. We like to ski steeps but understand that Telluride is in a different league, in terms of challenge. The website describes a "hike to" terrain lift map and (by the look of it) you can hike from 5 minutes to 1.5 hours (gulp) from the top lift in search of fresh tracks. Sounds great and we are planning to take our ski touring kit (as well as our downhill stuff) to assist with the hiking. Any comments on that from Snowheads? Would ski touring suit the terrain better than hiking?

We've skied (and were very impressed by) Jackson Hole and Alta and are looking forward to comparing telluride (and CB) with them. Any Snowheads out there who can give us some "not to be missed" ski runs and some thoughts on how the above compare with Jackson Hole and Alta.

Also, any tips on bars or restaurants that are worth a visit? In that respect we are more interested in good value grub and a good atmosphere than fine dining.

Thanks in advance.

I've been skiing Telluride, Aspen + others in NA the last 25 years . One season in both areas .

I would not pay much attention to flight & transfer times in the winter. If you lucky it works well. Snowstorm forget it . I would say 3hrs crested to telluride is the fasted they ever done it. The hike to Palmyra Peak is steep (not ski boots). If your not used to exercise at altitude I would advise against this. It will take you 1.5 to 2hrs .

Creted but has one lift to get you to the steeps, thats allways a problem in snowstorms. In Telluride Steeps no problems

Re Bars ,your find them , An English girl (lived there for years) works in the Gorrono Saloon.

Telluride is much smaller than Jackson Hole.

Over the years the place has been invaded by Ozzys & alot have businesses & live in town .
