Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

We are putting together a summer skiing package, about which I'll be sending detials out to our mailing list today. Basically it will be "take any of our summer break offers at Les Melezes, Tignes Les Boisses and we will include a free one day lift pass and free ski hire for the duration of your stay" For more details PM me or see our summer website.

I Seez, I went for a day last August with a fellow Sh (top poster by the way) and I have decided that it really is not worth all the hassle. Limited runs available and waiting for the funicular put me off. Would rather be hiking on foot somewhere and appreciating the mountains for their beauty in summer. Snow was not that good and there is only a few hours a day when conditions are ok - it gets very slushy.

Not for me.........

Agreed, conditions on the glacier are very varied through the summer. Last August when I was out went up early Monday morning and it was cold and icy...it rained in resort all the next day, went back on the glacier on the Wednesday to a foot of powder! What a bonus in August! Park is kept in good condition throughout, it's always a lot of fun up there if you're not expecting too much from the snow - it certainly beats dry slopes! And there are lots of summer camps/courses to get involved with to improve technique...saves practicing once the proper snow comes snowHead And the glacier closes at 2pm leaving afternoons to appreciate the many, many other things the summer mountains have to offer !

Skiing in the middle of Summer is cool.

But you will ski out the whole mountain in a day. And the conditions suck more often than not.

If you've never been Summer-skiing before, do it for the novelty value only.

Tignes can be great.. the earlier you go the better (June, July). It can still be good in August. It isn't like winter skiing - it's never that cold. What you do get is great variation in snow condidtion (Formica at 8, slush at 12), and largely empty slopes. Between 9 and 10-10:30 in the morning you usually get good conditions.

Look here.. http://www.snowmediazone.com/the_zone/showphoto.php/photo/4222 to see what you can get.

The analysis by SKI sums it up really well. Can be absolutely great and at worst very wet snow (eg rivers running down the south facing black run).

We skied Tignes glacier in July, August and September. Our early July trip was amazing - scorching hot (28c in the resort) but with skiing to below the usual summer ski area on 20km of pistes. August & September were well worth it too.

Get yourself there!! (And set your alarm - the skiing opens at 07.15....)

PS: If anyone is interested in a good deal on a newly refurbished studio (sleeps 4), 5 mins from the funicular in Val Claret just send me a PEM.

Can you let me know when you are in Tignes - you can carry my clubs anytime Laughing

The conditions do vary greatly throughout the summer. Last year in June we only managed 2 days skiing one week as it was snowing/stormy on the glacier and the lifts could not open. Last year in snowed in the village every month of the year which is rather unusual.

In August 2006 during the wine festival it snowed in the village and the red wines had to be warmed to bring them to 'room' temperature.

So you just take your chances in the summer, like the winter, and hope for weather that suits you Puzzled
