Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

FIS pleased with progress at Val d’Isere for 2009 World Championship

The Secretary General of the FIS, Sarah Lewis, is happy with the progress that 2009 World Championship hosts Val d'Isere have been making. After she had cross-examined all the departments of the Organising Committee this week, she congratulated them on their achievements. ...After a difficult start to the project, such as the resignation of Jean-Claude Killy, the Committee aimed to prove that everything is now going according to plan. For example, work has started this week on the new Sports Centre. However, there are still concerns over accommodation for the event - some journalists may have to stay in neighbouring Tignes - and the accreditation centre will be situated outside Val d'Isere.

Excellent news as I'm planning on being in Val d'Isere for some of the Championships (which unfortunately will clash with the Birthday Bash!). At least the FIS won't move the event from Val which looked possible a few months ago.

Still lots of problems with accomodation as most of the hoteliers will not comit to a one off booking for the World Champs as apposed to a repeat booking from a valued client.

The French, German, Italian & Slovinian ladies teams have been practicing on the Solaise during the last 2 weeks. Some great viewing is available from Val D nursery areas.

stewart woodward, thats an interesting stance by the hoteliers. By "valued clients" one assumes a client who would return regularly perhaps every season. As a client, if I liked a place that much, I'd either book early in the knowledge that accomodation would be scarce, or steer well clear until the circus rolled out of town. It sounds more like an attempt to squeeze the athletes for more money IMV.
