Poster: A snowHead

Well half term 09, and we are on the cusp of booking 42 of us to Pedraces. Hotel and transfers on hold, just flights to sort when they come out. Has anyone got any experiences of the place, pluses or negatives.
Cheers

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

It's slightly off the Sella Ronda circuit but it's nice and quiet. Quite a small village but a satelite or Corvara really I suppose

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Skied through there last year ('06) when staying in nearby San Cassiano. Nice place, a bit away from the circuit but that means it's quieter. The first lift towards La Villa from Pedraces runs both ways - it's horizontal. You can also take a bus from there up to St Martin/San Martino (?) from where you can ski across to the Kronplatz.

Only been there in summer, didn't visit it when I was out there last year but as others have said it's slightly off the circuit but not far enough to be a problem, 5 lifts to Covara (for some reason I've got a piste map in the office) and the circuit proper. It'll be pretty quiet but if you want a night out you could always get a taxi back from Corvara (maybe not for 42 but you might fancy an escape). You'll have no trouble skiing to the Marmolada from there either: you're probably slightly closer than we were in Selva I'd say you could be at the top in 2 hours if you move. You should be able to easily access the hidden valley from there too: you might be able to sort a coach for everyone.
You'll enjoy it.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Pedraces is located in a wide open valley which is a bit of a sun trap which ment that when I skied there in March this year the pistes were very cut up and porridge like by early afternoon on warmer days. You will also have a 200 metre walk to connect the Pedrace system to the La Villa system and onwards to the Sella Ronda. If the members of your party are experienced skiers they might feel they are based in a cul-de-sac .

riverman, Any more info on that walk? Not far, but twice a day would be a pain.

Hoppo, I have been in Arabba during Carnival week ( Shrove Tuesday ) and it was still nothing like as bad as the main French resorts ( and minor ones for that matter ) for queues and getting to/from the resort.
