Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Old school skis...

Just wanted to have a bit of a rave about some new (but old skis) which I have just bought for ski touring. I got a real bargain on a pair of Dynastar Little Big Fats, brand new, but the model itself is from 2004. What an excellent pair of skis. Because we went from a mild morning to a snowy afternoon today, I got to try them out on all conditions - slush, ice, crud, and finally powder and they seem to work brilliantly in all conditions.

I hadn't really heard of them before. Anyone else tried these? 4 years isn't a long time but they even look a bit old school!

i was thinking about them to use as touring skis but they never turned up on ebay
they are basically the old Dynastar Big/Inspired but in shorter sizes. i think i am right in saying that the construction of that ski hasn't changed a whole lot from the intuitiv range right through to the legend 8800 (or even the mythic rider) and it still gets good reviews.
as a lover of Dynastar freeride skis, I'm glad they've turned out well for you

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Arno,

Do you think that the Intuitiv is the same sort of ski as the 8800/Mythic Rider..?
I used to rate the Intuitiv but only used the 8000 a few seasons ago. Not too bad..but nothing that made me want to go after it again..

But I have been interested in the Mythic Rider... just haven't got round to it or found it..more like..

Snowmonkey, I have a pair of Bigs - they don't look old school at all ! I used to like them alpine, but they're much much more fun mounted tele ..... snowHead

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

JT, i believe so - the old Intuitiv 74, the Little Big Fat and the corresponding generation Big/Inspired all have the same sandwich underfoot/cap at the tip and tail construction which was carried through to the 8800
never spent too much time examining the 8000!
the old Bigs/Arnos (80-85mm underfoot/mini swallow tail) that I used to have were full sandwich construction and (judging from the fact that they had Racing Atelier stamped on the sidewall) were produced in the raceroom - I guess they developed into the Pro Rider, although the ski got considerably wider along the way!
i bet SZK knows far more about this than I do - maybe he'll jump in and set me straight
