Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Help needed for Huge Helmet in Hampshire

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Ok first off, first post woo!!! Very Happy
Secondly, I'm going to Tigne on friday to share a chalet with a group of people from Hampshire, and I am led to believe one from Cambridge but that's beside the point, and I think I'm going to need a helmet. The problem is I've got a huge head and the last time I checked I couldn't find one that fitted. Should I risk going bare top or does anyone know of anywhere in Hampshire that I could get a large helmet on short notice?
Much obliged

I'm sure if you have manged without a lid so far you'll be just fine. However I'm sure there will be many shops in Tignes that will be able to fulfull your need if you want a crash hat look for size XL.

Shocked Shocked Or maybe not !!! Sorry, my son suffered from concussion whilst snowboarding without a helmet in December, so I am in favour of helmets.

Dark Monkey Knight, Welcome to sHs snowHead

'Snow and Rock' Port Solent, 'Snowtrax 'Christchurch Dorset or 'Big Dreams' Wareham, Dorst. But as II, says you'll have a fair bit of choice in Tignes.

Another snowHead based in hampshire who has cranial disfigurements like the elephant man managed to find a lid. She bought a standard one and took it to a bootfitter to have the shell pushed out in one or two places. She might be able to tell you where she got here, but probably won't see this thread as she only reads the apres forum.

My s-i-l has a huge head (by her own admission!) & she got a good helmet in Vallandry, so I'm sure Tignes will sell one - unless the shops there are only selling their summer hiking gear now Toofy Grin

Having lived in Wiltshire near to the Hampshire border for many years I can fully understand your concern about sharing a chalet with Hampshire people without wearing a helmet, there are good reasons that they are known as Hampshire Hogs but I don't believe a helmet, no matter how large will keep you safe.

No need to apologise, unless you hit him, of course.

The suggestion that because a possible event has not occurred in the past, it will not occur in the future, is an interesting and comforting one. I'm not sure that many insurance companies or casino operators will be pleased to have it widely publicised, though.

No it wasn't a wind up though I do see what you mean. though I'm wondering how that sort of topic would get into the ski equipment section. On second thoughts I do not want to know.
Thanks for your help. You know how it is when you think you've got plenty of time to do something but the you look at the calendar and discover you're going skiing at the end of that week!
well excited though Very Happy

Dark Monkey Knight, are you coming skiing with me?

If you are you may know that I have had similar problems but have found that this year the helmet-sizing seems to have changed. My first helmet was a XXXL Leedom but this year I have been able to fit into an XL Giro - but if you are my son (I have my suspicions...) then the wind-up has failed!

If that's Nick then I guess I may be going with you
How on Earth did you find an XXXL helmet in Hampshire???
So have the sizes grown or has your head shrunk, because if they've grown its been a couple of years since I last tried looking for a helmet so do you think there's any chance that there's a readily available size that could fit me?

Yes it's Nick (Nick L?!) Unsurprisingly my head has not shrunk (though the hairs seem to have been sucked in a bit more rolling eyes ) so I think that the helmets have got bigger. Arno (another snowHead with a super-size head problem) has also been able to find an off-the-shelf helmet this year for the first time.

BTW, I didn't find the XXXL Leedom in Hampshire, I had to order it directly from the importer. However the XL Giro was in-stock in Filarinskis in Havant. Happy hunting (whichever of the party you are!)

Mouth, really not sure. Have a strong suspicion that it is my 17yr old's idea of a wind-up, and the name is the sort of name I might expect from him.

Fine. Yes I am NickL's son. I was planning to reveal this fact to him on the minibus on the way to France on Friday...after he had asked everyone if they were Dark Monkey Knight, which would have just about made my day.
April Fools anyway. I know for a fact that part of him feel for it. NehNeh
If anyone's interested I don't actually have a ridiculously huge head, fitting into a medium quite nicely, although I'm sure your efforts to answer my question will one day be useful to a big-headed Hampshirean, as they aren't really a rare breed. So a big thank you for just being willing to help me.
