Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Skiing season

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Looking to go back to Selva next year and would like to go at my usual time (last week of Feb). However, my significant other tells me that the seasons are shifting and that it might be better to go later (March). I've certainly noticed that conditions seem to be better later on (end of Feb/March/sometimes April) rather than earlier in the season (December/January).

Obviously, these are dependent on where you go, but as a generalisation...

What do my fellow snowHead think?

Personally, I have found better conditions later in the season in recent years. I'm looking forward to skiing in April, and even May, this year

I've been at Arabba over the Christmas and New Year period the last two years and there has been decent snow and the week after New Year this year must have been great as there was a lot of fresh falling over the changeover weekend. We had about 6inch of pwder on the Friday. I'd go when you want as its a lottery as to when the best snow will be.

Yes it is a lottery, but I think early to mid March has probably been statistically as good as most times, in most years, in many places. The longer days, and longer lift hours, are a bonus. And here, at any rate, zero lift queues.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

My best conditions this season were mid November in austria, the next 3/4 months did not better the start. But I'd guess normally late season is better as you will have a better base, particularly higher up. If you check most snow stats the deepest snow depths (other than resort / valley level) will be in april as there is a whole season's worth of snow. I've certainly had some fantastic late season skiing in the past (april / may). So what I'm saying is go either start, mid or end of season or the whole season.

that's the sort of quality advice you can only find on snowheads....personally, I go for the whole season apart from the February school holidays.
