Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Which skis?

Hi everyone,

I'm off to Val on Sunday and I'm just sorting out some rental skis and would welcome any advice...

We're sorting out some skis through ski-republic... What would people recommend for a pretty confident decent skier? I'm mainly on the piste but I'm venturing off a bit more these days, and improving my 'style' on the bumps...

I had some Rossignol R9 S last time and they seemed pretty good - but I'm also looking at the Z9 TI Oversize, XFight 4, the Salomon Tornado and the Dynastar Contact 9...

I'm a bit on the light side - 64kgs...

Cheers for the help!

I loved the Z9 Oversize the other week in Serre Chevalier. So much so in fact I just bought some... So I can recommend those - give them a go - if you don't like them just try something else.

PS Welcome to snowHead

I know! I saw that thread earlier...

I must say I have a sneaking respect for Gallic militancy but I do hope that the discount rental place is still there...

Thanks for the tips!

I have some 162 cm Tornados and they're great for a mixture of on and off piste. I'm about 68kg and am really happy with these skis but have no experience of the others you mention.

Gav1857, I've skied Tornados on and off piste and loved them, but again I can't offer a comparison with the others

Gav1857, I skied on Contact 9s earlier this season and found them very precise and responsive - I preferred them to the Rossi 9S's I've skied on for a while.

Gav1857, I ski 162cm Tornados (70kg intermediate) they're great on piste and float nicely in powder. I have no experience of the others.
