Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

When you watch the skiing on TV you pretty much get the impression that the World Cup alpine races, plus a bit of skier/boardX on Xtreme Sports, is all it's about...

Yet practically every day through the season there are races/events just a fraction under elite level - European Cup, international FIS races - all around the Alps. International standard snowsports with very few spectators, more's the pity - so it's the perfect opportunity if you're in one of the resorts to sample the atmosphere, watch some of the racers, see how the experts do it. Really is breathtaking stuff when you're on the spot, in both the technical and the speed disciplines...

Here is a list - just for France - of the events taking place through December and January alone. If you're in the resort, why not ski across and watch for an hour or so?....

I remember watching a womens downhill race in Tignes I couldnt beleive how narrow the strip of piste was that they skied on.
