Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

First snows fall on the ski runs of Kashmir

Gulmarg, the Indian ski resort at 2650m which draws international fascination, has received its first significant snow of the winter. This can only benefit the revenues of the long-awaited gondola project, due for completion shortly.

Of greater significance to Kashmiri people, though, is the prospect of water and economic benefit from the thaw that will follow... The arrival of the first snowflakes of winter is enjoyed with special celebrations, greetings and feasts.

This report from newkerala.com.
More info on the Gulmarg gondola project on this snowHeads thread.
For skiers' impressions of Gulmarg, read the comments on the GoSki forum.

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Quote:
The best ski resort in the Himalayas, Gulmarg was established by the British in 1927 during British colonial rule. The resort maintains the standards, naturally friendly service and ludicrously cheap prices for which India is famed. The only real drawback is the possibility of being kidnapped and executed by Kashmiri separatists.
Shocked

Otherwise, an interesting article from the GoSki article with some evocative recollections from those lucky enough to have skied the area. Thanks David.
