Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The glaciers are usually in excellent nick at that time of the year.

I've skied at Hintertux, Solden, Stubai and Kaprun at that time of the year and had great conditions! Long runs, great snow and fairly quiet.

zghost, wot John Crawford, said! Up until mid June the glaciers are usually good. July starts to get questionable and August - September is (usually) not worth the effort!

Now I am going to start doing my research on these places, do any one of them stand out from the rest?

My experience is that Kaprun is great in early May, but they start to close the lifts during the middle of the month. The upper slopes remain open, but it's only served by t-bars, and the number of slopes drop.
Whilst Solden has two small glaciers that will be open through May/June, I would probably try and go there in April rather than May. I've only done Hintertux late season rather than early season. Hintertux probably has more challenging terrain then that.

Done all the major Austrian glaciers and would go with Hintertux every time - most extensive and varied terrain, best lift system, great scenery and plenty of accommodation options.

You can stay at the lifts in Hintertux itself, though this is quite quiet on an evening (with the exception of the Hohenhaus apres ski bar, which is bouncing in season but may be very quiet in June - still worth a visit though).

Here's the Hintertux website link - very informative site and (I think) accommodation is bookable online:

Alternatively, stay further down the valley for a more lively time. Mayrhofen is 30 mins away (by regular local buses) and is a lovely town with a massive choice of accomodation & eating/drinking options. Haus Joggl (don't have contact details) is an excellent B&B that I have used - very comfortable, spotlessly clean (like all Austrian B&Bs), great value and a cut above the usual B&B standard.
