Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

And how many can you expect to get out of a board or ski during it's 120 life cycle (roughly speaking)...

I'd say, hardly ever for us punters.

The last I had done was on a pair of second hand skis to get the base angle back to 0 so I could file it to 1*.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

GordonFreeman, do you mean base (the metal sharp bit at the edge) or base (the plastic waxy bit between the two metal bits)?

GordonFreeman, If you mean plastic, it's whenever the base ceases to be flat - you can check this with a straight edge. For holiday use this means rarely. If you have your skis serviced by machine, they'll get ground each time, which may not be required.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

what he said, though I'll add...........
if you see a whiteish tone to your black bases(assuming your bases are black) and they no longer retain wax when they are waxed, then you are due for a grind.

I recently bought a pair of BlueHouse skis, that needed a base grind when they were new, out of the wrapper, because they were a tad rough to the touch, and "base high" by that I mean that the bases were actually higher than the edges.

Took them to the shop and they were sweeeet!

Although.........I've been told that a slightly concave base makes for a faster ski. VooDoo magic!
