Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski pants or bib and braces

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi I am planning a trip next year always wanted to try skiing but never took it any further, so I am currently looking on the site for all sorts of queries I have which I have managed to find most answers to

One question I have is:-

Is it best to have a bib and brace type of salopettes rather than a normal trouser type and what does the numbers on them means, is it to do with waterproofing as I have seen 2 pairs of ski pants one with 2000 on and the other with 6000 on am I to assume that the 6000 is the better figure.

many thanks

6000 = more waterproof. However, how wet are you likely to get while skiing? My trousers are blatantly not waterproof at all and I still never get wet.

smmjh11, Hi, you will find mostly ski pants (normal trouser type) +/- braces in the shops. Personal choice. The ones with braces often have a small bib at the back which is useful as added protection when you end up on your back in the snow. But if you have a decent jacket that will already have a snowskirt inside the bottom which should also do this job.
This year, so far, have not got very wet at all, even when snows you don't always get 'wet' but have had times when have got soaked in wind, rain, sleet whatever so good kit is important (and that doesn't mean it has to be expensive).

I've seen some salopettes that have the option to unzip the bib and braces part.

smmjh11, should you ever achieve my - ahem - rotundity - braces are essential Embarassed However, even I was not overweight, I preferred salopettes with braces - but as others have said, it is a personal choice. Have fun in the snow in Canada.

I'm guessing you must be male, as the thought of having to limbo dance out of a pair of salopettes in an alpine toilet [expecially a hole in the floor] is not my idea of a fun 15 minutes Laughing
