Can anybody recommend a make of socks that are not so tight under the kneecap that they basically cut off all circulation.
They all seem to be incredibly tight and I end up having to cut the elastic- and I have not even got fat shins !

Hiianccam, I have fairly well-developed calves and find Smartwool socks very comfy. Sometimes they're very pretty too (sorry, am female & girly)!

I wear silk liners. You don't need thick ski socks to keep your feet warm. Mind you, your boots need to be well fitting...

The excitement .... an equipment question I actually have an answer for!
Lidl do two ski-sock types and the cheaper of the two (with 3M whatsit) are fantastic IMHO.
I have a couple of pairs of the very expensive types that nearly cut off my circlation and the Lidl ones are far better.

ianccam, to the tune of "go on, go on, go on, go...."; Falke, Falke, Falke, Falke, Falke. ...Falke. They're more expensive than most, but you're worth it .

I measured my calves and they're each 14 inches in circumference. Ultimax and Salomon socks are fine for my size.

I've got huge calves (around 17-18 inch) and just invested in a £17.95 (OMG!) pair of falkes, worth every damn penny though, not tight, comfy and perfect fit, even with my awkward feet that caused me to have just about every bit of my boot adjusted!
