Has anyone got any good recommendations that won't break the bank? I'm a novice (third trip) who wants to improve my sking technique. Thanks!

Try Mountain Masters - Rupert Goldring is an excellent instructor. Based at Killy Sport in Val d'Isere.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

MM are expensive though which may not be what everyone needs. At the other end of the scale snowfun (www.valfun.co.uk) are cheap and cheerful with decent english speaking instructors, the development centre would be my other thought, v high quality instruction with mid level cost. Make sure you get a lesson first day and take your instructors advice about where to go - ValD is lovely but the run grading is seriously suspect, so if at all nervous it's best to plan your routes ahead!
If in doubt head up the madeleine (solaise peak) or borsat express (olympic side) lifts - the runs from those (and the valD glacier) are the easiest in town.
Just got back from a fab week with everyone from total beginner to 15 weeks advanced folks and we all had a great time, I'm sure you'll love it!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Do Mountain Masters do much in the way of classes for novice skiers (if that is what mrsangel is looking for)? I thought that MM specialised in higher level clinics and the like?

I've used Progression in Val a couple of times, coaching/privates at an advanced level for me, kids lessons for my daughter and beginners lessons for my wife - all absolutely brilliant and I'd have no hesitation in recommending them - website here
They may do discounts for Snowheads now so it's probably worth asking for Ken Smith (the man in charge) and asking him about that (say Roger recommended them).
BTW, the instructors are mostly British, all highly qualified and experienced in my experience and all speak excellent English so no worries there.

I would second recommending Progression. I had a 3 hour private lesson at Christmas with a chap called Arron (I think), who was excellent. I've been skiing since again and everything he told me has stuck and I can honestly say given me confidence in managing the steeper stuff.
