Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hello

I know that there are a few threads on this but I was after some upto date info\advise on who fellow snowheads use for car hire

I have been given a few avis codes (which gives a fair discount on a already massive price) but was wondering if anyone knew of any good deals\promotions. A search on money supermarket and go compare give some good deals, anyone any advise?

Hi

We research car hire quite a bit for our guests - and www.holidayautos.co.uk seems to come out cheapest ever time.

We met people here last week, with Hertz through Holiday Autos. Swiss side. They had two cars, one had chains, the other not. They had to buy chains in resort to get back to the airport safely, and though Hertz did reimburse them, it would have been better if they'd had them to start with. Cars from the Swiss side do NOT, despite constant assertions on Snowheads, invariably always include chains - check!

That's correct. I've had about 30 car rentals from the Swiss side of GVA in the last three seasons. I never pay extra for the "winter equipment" option when booking through Holiday Autos. In those rentals two cars have not included chains (including this week's car hire), the rest have had chains. All the cars have had winter tyres, significantly reducing the need for chains (I've just driven from Courchevel to Les Arcs on very snowy roads, passing many cars sliding all over or having to stop to fit chains). From what I can remember the cost of the winter equipment for a week's rental is more than the cost of chains in local supermarkets. On both my occasions when chains were not in the car the rental was with Budget (rather than Alamo or Hertz who I normally get allocated cars with).

My experience is similar to rob@rar. I normally book through holiday autos. The only time I had to pay extra for snow chains was with Budget. All other occasions had allocation from Europcar and Avis, and snow chains were included free.

We hired a car from sixt a couple of weeks ago. They offered a good deal from the swiss side. However I had to do a bit of phone challenging !! - The web site www.sixt.co.uk has an English contact number where as www.sixt.com has a German phone contact number. On checking both sites the car hire was MUCH cheaper on the German site. So I phoned the English number to query this and the helpful lady was able to match me the German site price.

On the question of snow chains, our car did not have them but we were aable to add them at the airport for 2.59 euros per day - which sounded reasonable to me.

pam w, with engines that don't break down. They certainly weren't cheapest by a long way when I looked for car hire for a short break.

one other tip - be sceptical about the blurb and avoid the airline's car rental partner - you'll come out of baggage claim to see a queue an hour long - no kidding - none of them are any good at handling numbers (the only place which used to be was Europcar French side : turn up, sign and clear off) - in fact the "famous" Swiss hospitality gets downright intransigent.

Easyjet's partner at GVA is Europcar, Holiday Autos gets you an Alamo vehicle (or occasionally Hertz), and my Auto Europe booking is with Hertz.

Helen Beaumont, We have had Hertz twice at GVA + Easyjet and both times cheaper than Holiday Auto's with disc. codes.
BUT now we have two flights into Grenoble and that really is turning up some price comparison fun Very Happy

We've had Budget a couple of times as well, but mainly Alamo.

Last year we got two cars from two different car hire companies on the French side of GVA. The queue for both was 90 minutes...

Am hiring two more from French GVA next week. Let's hope that happens again!
