Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Gressoney - Monte Rosa ski area

Just returned from 5 days in Gressoney – Monte Rosa ski area, so here’s a quick TR…

Stayed at Hotel Lysjoch in Orsia (1.5 km north of Gr.la Trinite) which couldn’t be better located, with chairlift literally 50m from the hotel, and skiing right back to the hotel ski-room. Nice comfy place – recently refurbished with Sauna etc. and good nosh.

Ski area is excellent, with fantastic views of the MonteRosa massif and terrain to suit all comers. Plenty of excellent piste-side restaurants, but if you’re after lively apres-ski it seems pretty quiet in the evenings.

Off-piste route guide is “Polvere Rosa #2” and can be bought from ski shop in Staffal (shop has sign for “Beer & Ski Edge for 11euro”) when you’re crossing from the Gr. side to the Sant’Anna cable car to Champoluc – worth getting a map too, as some of the schematics in the book are not much more than that!!!

Plenty of snow from the dump 2 weeks ago, but OP had suffered from high winds so was a tad crusty. Still managed to find some excellent routes – notably skating across Lago Gabiet, then skiing under the dam back down to Gr.LaTr. NB below the dam keep left of the river, then take the summer path to skiers-left of a cliff band (not like we did & had to retrace our steps when we reached the cliff & waterfall Embarassed ).

Fantastic packed-powder run parallel to the piste from Passo Salatti to Alagna – traverse behind the Refugio Guglielmina, then really long steep flattering avalanche-chutes to ski down. Total vertical of 1750m from the pass down to Al.

The cable car to Punta Indren above Alagna has been decommisioned, but is being rebuilt & should be running again in 2 years, so definitely will be back. Smile
