We are to to C1850 on Sunday - so any thoughts on where to eat cheaply (yeh, yeh,) for lunch (probably self service) and also for Chalet night off, would be really appreciated ? Also the best watering holes; where we can buy a beer without taking out a mortgage, with a relaxed atmosphere but still fun - we're all mid-aged so don't need nightclubs, but don't mind having some music .

IncogSkiSno, Firstly have a great time. For lunch there is a shopping/leisure centre behind the main Front de Neige called the Furum. Inside is an excellent bakery. One can have a lovely lunch if the weather is fine. Can't help with the rest.

IncogSkiSno, lunch at Arc en Ciel (look for the rainbow on the sign, it's up some steps directly above the toilets !) at the bottom of the Saulire télépherique.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

as per the others .... arc en ciel, the forum bakery overlooking the climbing wall and the sandwich window outside of the Kalico restaraunt at the bottom of the forum building on the side of the piste...
bus down to 1650 and go to the bubble bar cheap beer and food plus music some nights and internet if you need it.

Another vote for Kalico and the sandwich shop in the forum. There's a very reasonable (and very nice) place in 1650 for a lunchtime pizza, Le Petite Auberge I think it's called. It's a short walk from the snowfront - walk down the road past the bubble bar and turn right and it's on the left hand side of the road.
The bar of the Hotel Courchneige serves nice vin chaud and reasonably priced hot chocolate considering it's location (directly on the Bellecote piste above 1850) and has lovely leather armchairs/sofas and a big log fire. Great for an end-of-the-day drink before your final run home.

Dinner in the Refuge in the middle of town - nice food, sensible prices, friendly people. Good vin chaud as well.

IncogSkiSno, One of the best value mountain resto's: The Grand Lac over in Les Menuires, at the bottom of the Granges chair lift. Salads to die for @ €8. Makes a nice break when skiing to St Martin.

Don't have lunch in the Courchneige unless you're loaded..
C1650 another vote for the pizza place..through the gap in the hotels fronting the piste and there you go..
La Tania..restaurant down the bottom with chairs and table out side..can't remember the name..

Another one to avoid unless you're loaded is Cap Horn. We effortlessly spent more than EUR150 per head there one lunchtime last week. Glad I wasn't paying!

IncogSkiSno, it's in La Tania. It's a nice run down there, choice of a red or a blue (and a green now?) which sweep through the trees.

Bar Le Jump should be okay for a lunchtime visit. It's in 1850 just accross the road from where skiers gather for lessons.

IncogSkiSno for a nice sit down lunch try the place on the top of the Loze link between La Tania/Courchevel and Meribel
Think it's called Roc something or other, might be best to book a table if there are a lot of you. Not cheap but not ridiculous either. Great Carbonara and Omlettes

Le Passage pizzeria on the middle floor of the Forum centre is a good place for a cheap meal on the chalet night off.

IncogSkiSno, the Chrome bar in la tania just off the piste does really nice club sandwiches for like 6 Euro....

Le Tovets Hotel (?) in 1850 (to right and just behind the main lifts as you look at them) was fairly reasonable and service good. Mind you Tartiflete was on the pricey side
The sandwiches are large and, for about 5-6€ not bad value.

Haven't been there for years, but the self-service at the top of the Chenus bubble out of 1850 used to be our usual stop for a good value lunch. It may have changed...
