Poster: A snowHead

has anyone stayed in this part of courcevel and how did you find it, was it easy enough to access the lifts up the higher parts of the resort and is it possible to ski back down to la praz at the end of the day (for an intermediate not so brave skier)
also has anyone stayed with esprit in their chalets there at all?

charlichops, I think you'd be happier in La Tania or 1650 tbh. You can only ski back to Le Praz on a steepish red or a couple of blacks IIRC. The return to La Tania, OTOH, is one of the most beautiful runs I know, Folyères. The returns to 1650 are also fine. You also have the option of ski-in ski-out accommodation (or near as dammit) in both La Tania and 1650 - Le Praz accommodation almost all involves a hike to the lifts. JMHO

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Le Praz is low, so the runs back to resort can sometimes be closed, icy, or slushy, depending on the time of year and general sonw condtions. The village, however, is prettier and more traditional than its higher-altitude counterparts.
We were bookedthere with Esprit there last year, but sadly had to cancel. They do have an excellent reputation, though.

Hi charlichops,
Le Praz is a nice village but the runs down to it are quite difficult and as mentioned above are often icy. There are two bubbles that depart from the village, one goes up to C1850 (I think) and the other goes up towards the Loze area above La Tania - so if you found some cracking accommodation it would be possible to ride down the bubbles at the end of the day. La Tania probably better "(for an intermediate not so brave skier)"

Stayed in La Praz with a great company called 'family Friendly Skiing'. They took us each day to 1850 by bus which helped because the bubble takes you up to 1850 but it is still quite a walk to the main centre.
Nice village, definitely a bit cheaper than 1850 but still good access to one of the best ski areas in the world.

La Praz is nice enough and links well into the 3V. As others have said, you may prefer to take the bubble down at the end of the day, but this is no great hardship.

Le Praz is a lovely French village and if the snow is good you can ski right to the village. Some great restaurants and good bars. Well worth a visit.

i water skied in le praz....well it was so slushy that puddles formed outside the lift station and they put matting down to help you through it !!! also dont ski into the very well hidden pond (aparently someone did in a white out and didnt make it out again you could always have a go on the olympic ski jump - very scary !!! nice little village but snow record not great. you can always ride the bubble down and the blue/red run from the back of 1850 is not too difficult and turns into a nice track in the trees at the bottom. will be quieter than la tania.

charlichops, went there in Jan 2000 with Simply Ski. It's a good location for a more experienced skier. The red run from 1850 is not particularly steep but was generally rather icy especially at home time. I preferred to take the black runs instead.

Isn't there a free ski bus which goes through Le Praz regularly up to 1650 etc? That would be an option of staying there.
Agree with all the comments about La Tania, was a nice place to stay. My one moan about it, is that after the bubble lift you have to take another chair or drag to actually get anywhere

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Boris, there is. However IIRC it took quite a while. We only used it once as it was easier to get the bubble.
