Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

There are a lot of people who know the area well for skiing who will soon be along. The resort isn't particularly known for its apres, but there are bars in all the villages.

which village are you staying in? Monetier, Chantemerle or Villenevue?

there are 9 pages of lots of information on serre chevalier http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=31457&start=0 A lot of is non related to your questions. But lots of it will be useful.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks Chris. We're going to be in Villenevue. I will look at the link - hopefully that'll help!!

mustdash, Villeneuve has an old village, and a newer part. Apres is best I believe in La Grotte (at Aravet). It's a while since I stayed in that village though. Too many runs to name. Clot Gaulthier, Casse du Beouf. Don't forget to go across to Monetier (La Balme chair), returning via the Cucumelle. You'll have a great time.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Mitchell, very nice indeed. There is a long green run (mountain road in Summer) that goes from the top of the Aravet bubble and deposits you at La Grotte's doorstep. There's also a nice blue that does the same thing. There are some very nice wide open blues above the Casse du Beouf lift which my seven-year-old was perfectly happy on.

mustdash, I would recommend that when you go over Monetier side, that you take the Tabuc black down into the village. Stunning! There are a couple of steep pitches and sometimes it has a short mogul section, but it's worth it for the peace and quiet, the forest-lined aspect, and the gorgeous mountain stream.

Mitchell, depends which ski school you want to use, and how close your accommodation is to the meeting place. Also, how old are your kids? If you are beginners, carrying skis and boots for a long distance can be a pain. There are plenty of nursery slopes above the village though, which gives everyone a chance to get up the mountain.

Thanks Helen & TallTone,
The accomodation 'we' are looking at is supposedly 20 odd meters from the Aravet bibble lift, so sounds okay for that; The piste map ( although not totally clear) , on the web site seems to show a range of greens, some coming from good height so that looks promising
Just looking at the ski schoole on the web site & they seem quite good value especially for private lessons; is there any you would recommend?..................was planning to do a 'family' thing privately, say 2 hours per day; Having recently attended a 1 week esf elswhere it was more a case of follow the leader rather than teaching.
Kids are 2 boys 8 & 12 ( almost 9 & 13 acctually)..........................
How does that sound , or should I go somewhere like La Plagne ( or similar);
Finally, how do you think ( I know its impossible to be sure) the snow will be for 3rd week march, any at village level...............seems good right now?
Any other advise etc much appriciated, thanks again

Mitchell, that would be the Lodge Cimotel where I stayed just a couple of weeks ago then? Good food, very basic accomodation, nice people.

With your ski school plans I'd recommend you look at somewhere in Monetier instead though - you then have easy access to EurekaSKI, the British ski school out there. The instructor, Gavin Crosby, is EXCELLENT and will have the whole family bombing around in no time (I took three two-hour lessons with him in a group with two others and it's really helped me!) Try http://www.eurekaski.com/plus.htm for accomodation options in the village.

If you want to stick with Villeneuve, then Ecole de Ski Buissoniere (an ESI school) went down well with my family (who prefer "social" learning)

Third week of March should be fine this season - Serre Che is planning to remain open until the end of April there's been that much snow snowHead

TallTone/Helen,
Thank you so much for the very helpful info, so quick in responding too.

TallTone
,
Correct on the accomodation.................so it wasnt too bad then? Seems like quite a decent price for what you get. Is it well situated for the town etc?

Helen,

Was planning either week commencing easter ( 22/23rd) or the following week.
Also, going off track abit, was it 'you' I read referring to 'wedze' shortski's on another thread....it's just that I had been researching 'ski boards' ( or what some people call snowblades etc) & was interested at trying these out ( used to ice skate years ago & supposedly makes for an easier transition!)........what do you think?

Thanks
Mitch

Mitchell, it's right next to the Grotte for your apres-ski. I have three kids and frankly was shattered come the end of dinner (around 9pm). The main part of Villeneuve is further along - about a five minute walk. There are some other places to eat and drink in the square, and the ESI office is there, as is a lift-pass office. There are a couple of ski-hire places too. I'm on the long planks so don't know about blade range.
