Poster: A snowHead
|
Hello!
Has anyone skied St Gervais in April? I'm thinking of a weekend trip there, thanks to it's proximity to Geneva airport. I know it's not the highest altitude town, so I imagine snow could be a problem?
Thanks, Liam

lrx28, It should be great. You may not be able to ski down to the town at that time, but you can come back down the bubble at the end of the "Bettex" run from Mt d'Arbois. St Gervais is at one end of the Megève domain, which will give you plenty of scope. I've been there the last 5 or 6 Aprils and there's always been plenty of snow, despite the relatively low altitude. In fact, I've lost more days due to falling snow in April in Megève than in February!
St Gervais is a fairly substantial town so should be good for restaurants and bars. Having said that, I've never actually stayed there, just been through it umpteen times.
Les Contamines is also a short distance way (not sure about buses, but I'd be surprised if they didn't operate) and skiing is great there in April (see other recent thread in resort section).

Hope you had a good time in St Gervais/Megeve area. we have just come back from a week there with our 2 daughters - one keen to ski all the blacks in the domaine! but she was a seasinaire last year... Snow was fine up till lunchtime, then a bit sticky. But a lovely town and graet bakeries and bars.

Nice to see this thread get bumped up though! We've just booked a chalet in St Gervais next January. All the reports i've seen seem to be quite favourable.

no_snow_in_swindon, we are big fans of St Gervais, having had a summer holiday there, a couple of day visits when staying in other parts of the area, and two consecutive ski holidays. Which chalet are you staying in (there aren't that many in St G so it's possible we've been there )? The town is great with a couple of decent bars, some very good restaurants plus plenty of shops, bakeries, speciality food shops etc. The skiing is also excellent with great variety and plenty to keep all levels happy. Sure you'll love it!

Hi Anniepen,
Thanks for your comments. I've never heard of it before so always good to get some great feedback and "great feedback" is all I've seen so far!
We are staying at the Chalet Moulin de la Perrette. It looks lovely.
