Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Where to hire chains in Aime La Plagne

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi, I am looking for a little bit of help (On only my second post Sad )

We were due to drive to La Plagne next weekend for our annual family holiday. Unfortunately wifey stuck the car into a lamp post this afternoon and now the only place its going is the bodyshop.

Insurance loan car is not allowed out of the country, and the costs to hire a suitable car (and buy new snowchains, roofbars etc) are stupid.

So our only option is to fly and rent a car to transfer us to resort - car rental company cant supply snow chains though.

Does anyone know the name or website of the hut in Aime that hires chains? (The one just before you start to climb the hill)

Thanks

Mark

Thanks, not a lot of choice left with car hire at this stage. I was hoping to hire rather than buy if I can - its been a very expensive day- but thanks for the suggestion.

landlockedpirate, very bad luck. And welcome to Snowheads. I did the same thing a few years ago (I damaged the car, that is) and we had to fly/taxi transfer to resort, then use the ski bus - we were here for 5 weeks without a vehicle. As for hiring chains, you can't do it round here, but a cheap pair in a supermarket will only be about 30E and I can't imagine hiring being less expensive. Where are you flying into? The Swiss side of Geneva generally includes snow tyres and chains. You might also find that whilst they can't guarantee it now, the car hire co. will find you some chains on the day. I hope your holiday is a huge success after all this.... snowHead

Mark,

If they can guarantee what car wheel size you will get when you hire it you could hire the chains in the UK http://www.snowchains.co.uk/cgi-bin/rentalcarindex2.pl never done it mind you! just another option for you

Thanks again, we are having to hire from the French side of the airport (no availability on the Swiss). I have rung the hire company this morning and they have told me that although the wont guarantee chains, they have never run out. So things are looking up and theres more snow forecast for next week Very Happy

landlockedpirate, are you OK with the rather strange navigation in and out of the French side of Geneva airport? If not, have a look for one of the threads about this; getting back, in particular, can be difficult and stressful if you are a bit pushed for time for your flight. It's OK as long as you have good directions, and follow them. Such a lot of people have had problems that the hire companies have started giving out some sensible directions - but there's plenty of good advice on Snowheads. Come back here if you have problems locating it.
