We are off to Banff pretty soon and having never been there before, wondered what to expect shopping wise.
How are prices this season and any other info is more than welcome.
In partic. we are looking for helmets, and well whatever else we see really...best hide the CC!!
thanks in advance

Did a season in Banff a couple of years ago, and if I was choosing I would go to Mountain Magic. There are a lot of shops in Banff that sell stuff based on make / trend etc, but Mountain Magic seem to be from a climbing background and sell what they think is the best stuff. Can't remember the street name but they are opposite the cinema. Be careful in that they have two shops - one for clothing and one for gear.
If you are going with a tour company then on the bus transfer from the airport they sometimes hand out "10% off" vouchers for some of the shops, that can work well. Alternatively, most shops will give you a "locals discount" of 10% if you pretend that you are there for the season. You may be caught out so bear it in mind if you try that one.
As well as that, there is generally a shop or two that is only there for the season, selling off specific lines from last year. When we were there it was a shop specialising in Helly Hansen outerwear and we got some real bargains, don't splurge until you've checked out whether there is one of those open this season!
The shopping area is pretty condensed so it shouldn't take too long to at least check out the shops - although once you start browsing you'll be there for ages!
Don't know much about prices this year, but if you want any other specific info drop me a PM.

cforcat, helmets there was not a wide selection as I was looking for one last season (April mind you) i'd buy a helmet before you go. Prices are decent picked up some spider bormio pants for about £150 quid to give you some idea. Salomon Falcon Race boots cost me £180. This season the dollar is pretty strong on the quid so don't expect too much.

Just alerting you to the fact that there is a typo in your post.
Instead of asking "How's the SKIING" in Banff, you have inadvertently typed how's the "Shopping".........
