Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I remember skiing in Finnish lapland in the late 1980s, the one alpine skiing place in Finland. It was below -50, I think, and all the talk was about an English skier who had gone without head covering and died on the way down, his brain froze.

At the top, visibility was a few yards, and the location of the piste was totally unclear. I got down somehow. It was not much fun as skiing goes, but Finland is a wonderful place - had some good saunas.

It was really cool seeing people going shopping pushing carts on skis etc. The really great skiing in Finland is of course cross-country - incredible quiet, beautiful scenery.

Just a note to say that the Holiday programme is at 19.00 not 19.30 on BBC1

Talk about mad dogs and English men! I keep seeing girls with bare arms and legs in winter, must be a cool thing. snowHead

My brother and his family went to Levi a few years back. Had a great time. They did say that is was stupidly cold at times, but as long as you were wrapped up well, it wasn't a problem. The skiing was good for their standard and great for the kids.

They did point out though that the thermals etc sold there were far better than anything they took with them. And that jeans are not a good idea as evening winter wear wink

David, thanks so much for that.......sounds like we may be in for an entertaining week! The cold doesnt worry us at all (heh, why would we want to ski if we dont like icicle shaped noses?) and Lapland certainly sounds interesting! I will be writing my daily diary and posting on our return obviously).
