Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Dangerous driving conditions in Southern French Alps

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
There are dangerous driving conditions in the Southern French Alps at the moment with fresh snow and high winds. Switzerland was also hit by a violent "foehn" yesterday with gusts over 120km/h raising temperatures by a dozen degrees.

The Col du Lauteret linking Grenoble with Serre Chevalier has been closed overnight. According to the highways department crews are battling to reopen this key route but there are heavy snow drifts. Drivers are advised to avoid the route if possible. Snow chains are required for all vehicles attempting the pass as they are for accessing the areas ski resorts.

The Bison Fute are saying that tomorrows return will be "Orange" - fairly heavy traffic between 9am and 4pm. Patience is required.

The Avalanche risk is Considerable outside of open and marked ski runs.

That is a long drive south or North to get to Serre Che then from France.

You'd either have to:
1. Head NORTH through Chambery to the Arc valley to Modane, then Frejus Tunnel and from Italy hed up the Col du Montgenevre

or

2. Head South through Grenoble via Gap

I wonder which is quicker?

I'd imagine north on the motorways.

Isn't Helen Beaumont travelling back today? I suppose if they're flying back from Turin it won't be a problem, but I think they normally drive.
