Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Pacing a Ski Weekend

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I'm skiing for a weekend in Feb in Cham. Reckon I'll be getting 3.5 days on piste (Friday - monday morning).

All my previous skiing has been for a week period, so I can afford to have a slower day mid-week when limbs get a bit tired, but don't have that luxury for a weekend.

Any good advice/experience of w/e skiing would be appreciated.

I'm in pretty good shape physically, doing some lunges and swimming, working on stamina between now and then.

cheers

Tim Sawyer go for it, dont bank on taking it easy at all, you wont want to waste time!

Last weekend we got the tunnel at 620pm, drove to Val Thorens, arrived at 530am Sat after having to fit chains to get to resort.

On the slopes 10am after a kip, until 430. Then beers, food bed by 10pm. Sun skied from 9 til 430 with only a short drink stop, lunch was taken on the gondola! More beer/food then asleep by 10pm again.....

Monday on piste by 9am and then left at 1pm to drive back to Tunnel, arrived home at 12.45 am tuesday.

On a weekend you wont have time to feel tired, adrenalin will carry you through!

Roger C, thanks bud. That sounds mental! My weekend should be a little more leisurely - flying out on thursday evening, ski Fri, Sat, Sun, Monday morning, fly back Monday evening.

Still, will take your advice I think - ski as hard as I am able - hurt when I get back Smile

Tim Sawyer - I agree with Roger C and rob@rar - ski until you can ski no more. And then ski some more snowHead

Weekends are busy - so my tip would be to:
- start early to avoid battling for lift space with people who drive in and arrive around 10am
- lunch early so that you can ski when everyone else is lunching
- take a good good afternoon break whilst everyone does their hour or so after lunch
- ski to last lift as the last hour of the day can often be very quiet.

Tim Sawyer, I'm definitely in the do it now camp. In March when arriving at Morizine at lunchtime had a pre-prepared sanni in the gondola going up. Also pack you bag for a quick change when getting into a resort. You pay a premium for doing a weekend ... get the most out of it!

They're generally the only way I get to ski now, and can heartily concur with martski. However, our secret weapon is to hit the booze straight off the slopes and hit the hay before midnight, thus ensuring at least 6 hrs kip and a better chance of making the first lift in the morning.

Catch up on your sleep when you get back to work...

I like it all - we are staying two mins walk from the Flegere lift (if you know the Chamonix valley - or even if you don't!) so early brekky, get to the first lift etc.

PhillipStanton, Good shout about do lunch at abnormal time - may get the hotel to prep some sarnies as well.

I'll be joining some guys who will have already skied for four days, so I hope they can cope with the change of pace... Smile

Get fit and go flat out. I draw the line at packed lunches tho, that is very sad. Just lunch early or late and skip starter and pudding!

the ice perv, packed lunches, yeah, might as well join the school group sitting in the snow. I went on a youth group ski week thing years ago and we all had packed lunch - but the sarnies were all frozen!

Happy days.

Be on the first lift up and ski till they close. Swift butty/soup/pasta for lunch (20 mins max) and only stop to pee.

You'll ski more than you did in a full week snowHead
