If I could choose one of my heros it would be Franz Klammer or Alberto Tomba.

Yup... Hermann Maier - a truly amazing and inspirational comeback last year, even more so considering the awesome abilities of some of those he beat.
...we are not worthy!

Bode Miller's style is something else but there's more of a balls element to downhill and a God has to have balls.

Stenmark and Klammer for me, although Herman Mair and Tomba run them very close. All were or are in the terminators case spell binding to watch.

Seems that I might have to dig out some info on Ullr to convince everyone who they should be praying to.

Does praying to the God of Credit Cards count?
So does the god of winter have a subset of godlings - is there a god of snow separate from the god of ice? Cause I think the latter is very vengeful.

What about the Christian God ? We're told He moves in a mysterious way. That sounds like my skiing.

Some of the video guys ought to get a mention: Tanner Hall, Seth Morrison and that ex-racer who straight lines 50 degree couloirs (Jeremy Nobis) etc.
I was watching Blizzard of Ahhhhs last night and what these guys do now is way beyond . . .

It seems a little biblical research is called for.
Apparently, big cats roaming at the edge of the piste (several incidents have been reported on snowHeads, especially on this thread) is nothing new:
2 Samuel 23:20 wrote: |
he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow |
As the next series of quotes show, Job was the most enthusiastic skiing prophet. As I can't find any complaints about lift queues, his reputation for patience is clearly deserved.
Slopes were evidently graded before many of us were aware, and the season in the Holy Land was limited:
Job 6:15-16 wrote: |
Which are blackish by reason of the ice, and wherein the snow is hid. What time they wax warm, they vanish: when it is hot, they are consumed out of their place |
And we're not the first generation to be concerned by global warming, and to regard it as pay back time for our indiscretions:
Job 24:18-20 wrote: |
Drought and heat consume the snow waters: so doth the grave those which have sinned |
Incontrivertible evidence that Franz is right.
Job 37:5 wrote: |
God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend. For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth |
And again (I think this psalm must have been written by a mother, with its implied advice to wrap up warm)
Psalm 147:16-17 wrote: |
He giveth snow like wool: he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes. He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold? |
Fashion conciousness is not new on the piste:
Proverbs 31:21 wrote: |
She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet |
Osama bin Laden was not the first to enjoy skiing in Lebanon:
Jeremiah 18:14 wrote: |
Will a man leave the snow of Lebanon which cometh from the rock of the field? |

Our "brethen" over the pond (check Powmag, TGR and Epicski) have "unanimously" accepted Ullr as the god of snow and skiers....
