We're going to Whistler for Christmas and New Year, but want to book the top table for both evenings in advance.
we're looking for somewhere special and romantic that would give a celebrity chef a run for their money at an average price per head
ie not the local pizza place or rodeo grill, but we'll try any type of food, not particularly wanting roast turkey.
Any suggestions of where we can eat.
thanks

innerspaceservices, you could try the Chateau? We had Easter brunch there, I assume they so something similar at Chrostmas and New Year. As for top restaurants, Araxi has to be one of the best in the village

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Val d'Isere restaurant is very nice, I can recommend asking there. THe best food we ate at WHistler was cooked by Joern at http://whistlerbb.com but he normally caters only for guests

The best food we had in Whistler was here:

(caution - *awful* website - i found pics eventually in the "zen tour" section)
Not very christmassy - but could be good for New Year. The main space is a bit stark and modern but they have wonderful little private dining rooms at the back which are lovely.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Personally my favourite in Whistler was Umberto's/ There are two restuarants and both are as good as the other. The best Spaghetti Carbonara ever !

Depends I suppose what sort of food you want, for something different try Mongolie Grill, stir fry food which you choose first then watch them cook it. Was popular last time we were there - another good one is Hy's mainly steaks and stuff but serving a wide variety of dishes with an excellent wine list
Somewhere quieter but still good is the restaurant out on the Nicklaus North Golf Course, but they are not open all the time so check availability first as they do get booked up quickly.

What he said.
Especially seconded for the Bearfoot Bistro, splash out and they'll let you sabre the top off a bottle of champagne in the wine cellar.

Update: Umbertos is now open again!

The Rim Rock is fab and a locals favourite for a top meal out
Quattro is pretty good too (Italian)
Araxi is excellent too but not so quiet (we had Christmas dinner here one year)
Never been to Edgewater Lodge or the place at the Four Seasons but I would imagine they're excellent.
The Bearfoot Bistro is probably the most expensive in Whistler but very poncy with the service (they put silver domes over your food and the waiters simulataneously lift them to 'un deux trois voila' )
