Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What Bevel Angle?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I'm interested in servicing my own ski's, but one area I need some guidance on is bevel angles (both base and side bevel). How do I find out waht is the normal bevel for my ski (Metron 11's) or is it the same on all ski's as standard? Also, not sure if I would notice a degree more or less, but what effect should I feel from increasing and decreasing bevel?

Thanks

Nigel

nigels, see http://www.jonsskituning.co.uk/content/view/31/41/

All Atomic's are shipped 1,3 (1 degree base edge angle & 3 degrees side edge angle). Base edge angle determines how much the ski has to be tipped before the edge engages & the side edge angle determines how much bite the edge has once engaged.

IMO 1,3 is an ideal set-up so just leave them at that. Be careful if requesting a shop tune their machines are often set to either 1,1 or 1,2. Metron's also have a bit of deliberate concavity in the base at the tip & tail so don't a shop try & grind it out.
